Bird Feeders are in Season for Bears

The wildlife and plant page (here) has a post about a bear that has been visiting homes between Route 7 and Lake Dunmore.  It’s a good time to take in the bird feeders so the bears don’t have a reason to linger at your house.

On Saturday June19th we had a young black bear (BooBoo) wander into our yard enticed by the over-sill from our one bird feeder…oops….he laid down next to the house and was slurping up seeds when he was scared off by a car pulling in…he ran over to our neighbors, the Hillmans…and then over to Janet Higbees on Beaver Pond Road (or is it Lower Plains Road at that point down near Route 7?)…..Well tonight, Tuesday June 22, the bear was back and even less intimidated than before…yelling, pots and pans crashing, my nail gun, sounding like a gun, firing into some 2×4s….he eventually wandered away…once again to our neighbors…and tried going in their garage…..and then into their garden for a salad….well…bird feeder is retired for the season….we will miss the wonderful birds that were coming to it…but realize that it is not healthful to have docile bears coming into the yard….and then perhaps into th4e house….
